Winter Wedding Beauty and Style Tips

by Jade Armson 19 January 2019in Photoshoots

Ah, there’s no better place in the winter than Colorado. One day it can be 25 degrees, fluffy snow falling throughout the state. Another, the temperature can swing 30 degrees, snow is melted, the sun – blinding, as if it were the middle of June.

We have it pretty easy here in this gorgeous Rocky Mountain State, but the unpredictable weather can make things a little tricky for soon-to-be brides planning their Colorado winter wedding. Just like any day of the year, you literally don’t know what temperature or conditions you are going to get. While we get over 300 days of sunshine, it is the one thing that cannot be controlled on a wedding day, and I see that as kind of beautiful. If it were me, I’d take my chances on a January in Colorado. You will most likely be pleasantly surprised. ????

The recent snowy conditions have us in a mood and we’d like to share our bridal beauty tips for winter weddings! We teamed up with Rocky Mountain Bride and The Bridal Collection to help you plan for that perfect, snow-glistening day when you say, “I do”.

1.  Consider the season

RMB: “Long sleeves, heavy laces, and satins look beautiful in a winter setting, but don’t let that sway you from the right gown. A faux fur jacket or velvet cape can make a lighter weight gown feel more festive, and keep you a little warmer!”

A favorite winter bridal hairstyle of ours is the style our beautiful model is showing off in this feature. Uniform, Hollywood waves, a dramatic, strong part, and everything pulled neatly to one side. If you don’t have the length to rock this look, additional length and thickness can be added in no time! We offer temporary clip-in and longer-lasting tape-in hair extensions (up to 6 months lifespan). All extensions used are 100% human hair and can be curled and styled just like your very own natural hair.

2. Don’t forget about your spouse

RMB: “Velvet and wool jackets not only look seasonally stylish but will also keep the men warm during the wedding. Stick with black, grey and navy for a classic look, or consider a burgundy or deep hunter green for something a little more festive.

For two brides, both ladies can follow the Hollywood glam style in tip #1. Or, if we have one short-haired lady and one long; we’d recommend the cascading waves for one and a timeless, finger wave for the other. These styles will match each other beautifully.

Grooms! Guys should gear towards a classy look to match their winter bride. Managed, sleek hair with a clean part for short-haired men. For long-haired gentlemen, a tamed bun or low pony. These styles will fit with the bride and the weather just perfectly. ????????

3. Don’t shy away from the sparkle

RMB: “Winter has such a magical feel, so layer on the sparkle and shimmer. Even if you are having a more casual winter wedding, clear crystals and pearlescent sequins won’t look over the top in a snowy setting. For more wow factor, look for Swarovski crystals that shine like diamonds.

Blending in a light shimmer to your eyeshadow can go a long way! Pair your shadow with a classy amount of highlight on the upper cheekbones. A little goes a long way with these two beloved make-up sidekicks, and they really can make bridal makeup pop in the best way!

4. Stay warm and stylish!

RMB: “Wedding gown sleeves won’t keep you as warm as a proper coat, so consider wearing wool tights under your dress for an outdoor ceremony. Shawls or pashminas make great gifts for your bridesmaids and will also prevent them from being the something blue at your wedding.

If you choose to wear a shawl, consider your hairstyle of choice! You don’t want any loose tendrils getting mangled in your jacket of choice. That’s not cute ????
When adding a jacket or shawl, a traditional updo or playful high ponytail would be the way to go!

5. Remember to accessorize!

RMB: “A gorgeous headpiece or statement necklace can be the perfect accessory to complete your winter wedding look. Steer clear of a floral crown which can look out of place in the winter, instead look for glittery halos or a sparkly comb. For added drama, look for a Spanish tulle veil which is heavier in weight than standard tulle, and looks more wintery and luxurious.

Consider including a dainty, sparkly hair accessory to top off your perfect winter wedding hairstyle. Glistening, small combs or subtle headpieces fit very well with the season.

Contact us today to map out your ideal bridal beauty plan!

The dress featured is a Justin Alexander Style 8936.

From The Bridal Collection:

“Calling all Meghan Markle fans! This gorgeous crepe long sleeve fit and flare gown is lined with Jersey from top to bottom making it as comfortable as it is stunning. The elaborately beaded motif on the sheer illusion back is a beautiful surprise.”

This gown is currently available at The Bridal Collection in Denver, Colorado.

Wedding Beauty and Fashion for Rocky Mountain Fall Weddings

by Jade Armson 21 September 2018in Photoshoots

It’s September 21, which is the last day of summer… so it’s basically Fall.

It’s totally valid for everyone to ditch the shorts, throw on leggings with boots, and go to the closest Starbucks to order a venti PSL. ????????‍♀️

Serious talk though, the leaves are changing in the Rocky Mountains and it’s absolutely beautiful! As of today, the temperature is FINALLY dropping (below 90 degrees, haha) and Colorado residents are getting a nice refresher on what it’s like to have a chill in the air. After the scorching summer, we’ve had, everyone seems to be craving that 4 letter word… F-A-L-L. Some claim it to be the best season in the Rocky Mountains and *ahem* also the best time of year to tie the knot. With moderate temperatures, fall weddings are guaranteed to make guests happy and comfortable, which means happy wife, which means… happy life! But, often the fall season leaves us in limbo about how to dress and map out a beauty plan for the occasion.

So, as the season approaches (T-minus less than 24 hours), and with a growing trend for fall weddings, elopements and more; Jaded Beauty teamed up with Rocky Mountain Bride and The Bridal Collection to bring you ten fall style tips.

1. Don’t feel limited by the season!

RMB: “While a long sleeve wedding gown is absolutely stunning in the fall, wear what makes you feel beautiful.”

If you slip into a strapless ball gown that has your name written all over it, and you can’t help but spit out the words “OH, YAS QUEEN” to the mirror, there is no reason you can’t say, “YAS” to the dress!

2. Don’t shy away from shimmer!

RMB: “Dresses with sparkle can often have a glamorous vibe, but if you’re hosting an outdoor ceremony don’t rule it out! Choosing to wear a wedding gown with some shimmer can create a magical, ethereal feel at any Rocky Mountain venue.”

Show your true colors, and if you “sweat” glitter then you do you, boo-boo, and make it rain sparkles at your Fall wedding.

3. Who said you have to wear white?

RMB: “Try to avoid a bright white for a fall wedding – ivory is always going to be more flattering and will look more natural with fall colors.”

If you can confidently wear white year-round without getting a speck of “life” on your outfit, then you, my dear, are a unicorn, and we applaud you. Ivory is much more forgiving than white and truly matches the season (which can get messy at times) in style.

4. Consider mixing dress tones!

RMB: “For a fall wedding, mix the tones on your gown (like an ivory lace over a nude lining) to create a romantic and natural feel for an outdoor ceremony. Blush, nude, gold and champagnes also look beautiful in the fall.”

Don’t forget to match your make-up to those tones as well! A soft gold eyeshadow on the lid blends very well with a dark nude lip.

5. It’s all in the accessories!

RMB: “Create a fall feeling with your accessories. Warm golds, wrapped headband, and rich florals can create a fall vibe even with the most classic style gowns.”

Complete your bridal hair with a tasteful amount of florals to match your bouquet and wedding colors. Most florists will happily put aside a few “scraps” for hairpieces – you don’t need much! This looks stunning in fall bridal hairstyles!

6. A floral crown is still okay!

RMB: “Floral crowns are still on-trend but for all weddings, consider waiting to wear that floral crown for your reception. Keeping a classic look for the ceremony guarantees your photos to be timeless, and it creates two different looks from the ceremony to reception”

Business in the front (or in this case, first), party in the back (or after), ladies. Classic words to live by – even when it comes to your wedding! ????

7. The weather is unpredictable!

RMB: “The Rocky Mountain region is known for fast and unpredictable weather changes. Consider buying a shawl or lace jacket to pair with your wedding gown. Just in case!”

Also, keep your bridal hair in mind as the weather may change. Consider a soft, romantic updo rather than loose, flowing curls if the weather is looking questionable as the big day approaches.

8. Your love!

Navy or dark grey suits create great fall looks for the groom or your bride-to-be. If they want to go for a bolder look, a custom hunter green or burgundy suit looks great and photograph amazingly.

Even if you and your wife have opposing styles but still plan for each of you to partake in hair and make-up, your styles should compliment each other. Schedule a phone consultation, followed by a trial for each of you with Jaded Beauty in advance. We will make a solid plan for each individual style so you blend well together!

On the other hand, if it’s a groom we are talking about, maybe he has been growing his hair out for that man bun he’s always wanted Or, he wants to shake it out and let his lovely locks flow. Either way, make sure that man of yours still looks maintained and sharp. Our team is prepared to smooth or shape any wild hairs for the groom and groomsmen.

9. The wedding party!

Give them a little leeway with hair and make-up. A messy, tousled braid paired with a pop of burgundy on the lip and a champagne eye is a sexy look for a bridesmaid that won’t overpower the bride’s shining moment. This bridesmaid hair and make-up style also match the season perfectly.

For their attire, deep burgundy (obviously there’s a theme here and we are absolutely obsessed with deep wine tones), champagne sequins, dark hunter green or navy blue are great colors for your bridal party. Keep it simple with one color, or mix a few tones up for a laid-back fall feel.

10. Don’t forget your guests!

RMB: “Let the guests know what kind of terrain to expect. Certain outdoor venues may require sturdier shoe choices. And, if the reception is also outdoors, a friendly reminder to bring a light jacket for those cooler fall evenings is appropriate. If you’re expecting a chillier weather forecast due to location, providing blankets for guests to cozy up is a good idea.”

The dress featured in this post (Style MJ455) is from the Madison James Collection.

This Madison James gown comes in the perfect tones including champagne, ivory, nude, and almond. And, with just the right amount of shimmer, you’ll be sure to shine on your big day!

The Bridal Collection currently carries the Madison James Collection. On November 30-December 1, The Bridal Collection will be hosting a trunk show featuring the 2019 collection by Madison James.

From The Bridal Collection:

Famous for their incredible and unique lace patterns and stunning, vintage-inspired beadwork, Madison James gowns embody the ideal combination of luxury and classic American charm.

Because our stunning Colorado landscape offers endless options for wedding venues, it is important to us at The Bridal Collection to present our brides with just as many gown options to suit their personalities, venues and wedding styles. For nearly 20 years, The Bridal Collection has been creating stress-free, fun shopping experiences for Colorado brides. No matter the season, The Bridal Collection stylists can help you find the perfect wedding dress.

Spring/Summer Rocky Mountain Bride Magazine Spread

by Jade Armson 13 July 2018in Photoshoots

I love my boyfriend. He is incredible. Here he is, right over there, look how dreamy ????

I have a second love, though… and that love is for Rocky Mountain Bride Magazine.

This publication is 100% woman run and has been mesmerizing brides-to-be with magical real weddings and inspirational styled wedding shoots for years. The Jaded Beauty team has had the opportunity to partner with Rocky Mountain Bride multiple times over the past few years including: The 2016 Colorado Regional Print issue at YaYa Farms, The 2018 Spring/Summer Print issue (BELOW), and another fabulous shoot this past month that is currently being kept under wraps but hopefully we can share everything soon!!

The feature below was showcasing one beautiful, REAL bride (married in three weeks) and her most important ladies. The bride, Caroline, won this custom photoshoot through a RMB contest – how sweet is that?! Our playground… I mean office for the day was Hotel Teatro, a swanky Downtown Denver venue featuring a dreamy lounge perfect for any event, rehearsal dinner, bridal brunch, lounging, looking at Instagram, etc.

Emma and Grace Bridal Studio provided the lucky bridal model-for-a-day with her classy, yet sexy brunch dress. Emma & Grace is *ahem* in my opinion, the best bridal dress shop in Colorado. Yes, I mean that, with my whole heart. If you are a bride-to-be in the market and still shopping for a wedding dress, or even if you have already found your dress, just go there. I’m telling you, you won’t regret it. Not to mention, the owner makes all of the jewelry and accessories by hand and they are insanely beautiful! No, they did not pay me a commission for that specific call out (but maybe I should try and work out a deal with them). ????

Ok, we have to talk about the DIAMONDS! Are they not to die for? The perfect, shiny rock on Caroline’s hand is actual her real engagement ring! Her custom ring and all of the other diamonds you see in these photos were provided by The Diamond Reserve. The chick that runs this company is one of the most hilarious and also successful women I have met in this industry. She just makes you want to laugh and buy diamonds in one fell swoop. It’s incredible.
I’ve been hinting at that boyfriend of mine that I love so much that he should become friends with her soon and you know… buy a diamond… or two. (Wish me luck).

Moving on, our lovely ladies that made up the rest of the bridal brunch crew were all dressed in Nordstrom, nonetheless, I mean you can’t actually ever go wrong there. No one argues with that statement, right?

Don’t let the flowers go unnoticed. Those were custom crafted by Helios Florals. I am still obsessing over the extra long eucalyptus stems. Those things were FIRE! But seriously, they actually almost caught fire next to the lit candles on the main table toward the end of the shoot. Luckily, I was actually obsessing over them and saved them from catching flame. The shoot would have been completely ruined. I saved the day. You’re welcome everyone. Where’s my award? Haha, kidding. Kind of.

This could not have been possible without Peyton with Promise Event Planners, who was responsible for all planning and design that went into this shoot. This girl has a serious eye for design! I can’t get enough. She hand selected all of our vendors, including us, and we think she did a pretty fabulous job, don’t you?
Go tell her she rocks. Tell her I sent you.

Lastly, BEAUTY!!! When given the direction: “Do whatever you want” – we have some fun. We wanted to make sure each woman had their own, custom style that suited their look and dresses. In my opinion, the bride needs to stand out, but not overshadow her leading ladies. I went pretty glam with the bridal make-up while not going “too hard in the paint.” She clearly has make-up on but she is by no means, a “cake-face”. You can have glamorous make-up as a bride and still look like yourself. I am all about giving you that life! For her bridal brunch hair, she sported a loose romantic bun slightly to the side with dainty curls peeking out. A few flowers for the final touch that really buttoned everything up nicely into the quintessential bridal hair and make-up package.
*Queue salt bae*

END RANT.
That’s how that’s said, right? …Too soon?

Sorry, ok, enjoy below and see you in the next post!!

Boulder, CO | Mountain Wedding Elopement

by Jade Armson 12 January 2018in Photoshoots

Colorado winters are so unpredictable – January especially.

In the first month of 2018, the weather treated us just right. For this ideal Colorado elopement, we embraced the beautiful blue skies and slight Rocky Mountain breeze. Most of the day was spent on the peaks in Boulder… not too shabby. Bride and groom, Brittany and Jordan, dressed to the nines and hiked the Boulder Flat Irons all for the sake of some glorious mountain top images.

The bride chose separates of a long and flowing skirt coupled with a long sleeve lace top by Heidi Elnora (exclusively at Blue Bridal). Her wedding day wear was complimented by the groom’s textured and warm velvet overcoat, outfitted by The Black Tux. The remaining details, including floral and decor were made up of warm, neutral colors. The entire collection gave an organic, natural feel.

La Rue Floral mixed darker pops of burgundy and aborigine, colors of some of the most beautiful floral in bloom this time of year in Colorado. The floral included: eucalyptus variety, butterfly ranunculus, quicksand roses, larkspur, scabiosa, chocolate Queen Anne’s lace, astrantia, and anemone. Her bouquet was tastefully colorful and extravagant.

Let’s get to the beauty!!! First things first, make-up. In the spirit of keeping everything in the same color and tonal family, we stuck to matte, neutral colors for her shadow palette. Since Brittany has naturally dark features, we were able to go a little bit darker and more elaborate with the smokiness in her crease.

[envira-gallery id=”2715″]

Products used:
Shadow primer: Make up Forever Aqua XL color paint in matte beige (one of my ALL time favorites – your shadow WILL NOT MOVE).
Shadows: Primarily made up of the Tarte pro amazonian clay palette
“Classic”on the lid. “Whimsy” in the crease. “Edgy & “vamp” in the outer corner. “Punk” for the eyeliner. “Drama” under eyeliner.
Brows: Morphe brow palette
Concealer: Tarte shape tape concealer (Nuff’ said).
Foundation: Youngblood sunkissed
Lips: Tarte quick dry matte lip paint in deep nude (apparently I was in a Tarte mood that day)
Powder/bronzer: Morphe 9color palette

Ok, so clearly, I had a lot of fun with that. I was given absolute free reigns for beauty! NO RULES. Yes, please.

How about that hair? Can you even handle how beautiful it is?
Yeah, me either…

To be fair, moooost of it is hers. The other half needs to be given some credit and that goes to Halo hair extensions. This is such a quick (and easy) way to add length and thickness in minutes with zero damage. It is 100% human hair kept in beautiful condition and easy to manage. I wanted to showcase this fabulous hair, not restrain it in an updo. Also, for an adventurous mountain ceremony, her hair needed to be down and just ever so slightly swooping to a gathering point in the back. Her hair looked natural, slightly effortless and playful – which is exactly what I was going for.

Products used:
Powdered volume: Unite Expanda Dust This magical powder gets sprinkled section by section right in the crown area. Just the smallest amount… seriously.
Curling iron: 1″ Hot Tools iron (I prefer marcel vs the clamp but that is just personal preference)
Thermal Spray: Unite 7seconds Glossing Spray for heat protection and added shine! I spray this right before I curl a section
Light Hold Hair Spray: Davines This is a Medium Hair Spray ALL TIME FAVORITE.
Finishing Hair Spray: Davines This is a Strong Hair Spray Need I say more?

We had an amazing wedding vendor team from regions across the U.S. that collaborated to make this all happen. And what a collaboration it was…

Destination Vendor Team:

Denver Life Magazine, Jaded Beauty and Jeff Nelson Photography teamed up to bring you the hottest looks in fashion for the hottest months of 2017. We took a trip to Salida, Colorado and shot at the best place to lay your head in town: Amigo Motor Lodge. This place is a little oasis in it’s own. Behind the Chair with Jade

by Jade Armson 14 August 2014in Behind the Chair Beauty, Photoshoots, Tutorials

Jade and Kari_Fotor
Here’s a little glimpse into what it’s like to be behind the chair with Jade. Customized hairstyle to YOUR liking, professional makeup and personal photoshoot (must book in advance.) Some people prefer to arrive prepared with photos and examples of what they like and some like to leave it completely up to the professional. Either way is absolutely perfect with me, as long as YOU feel comfortable and excited about the outcome!
Kari decided to leave everything up to the professional and put it into my hands to give her a little… UMPH. Not that she needed it, she is naturally stunning, but sometimes women just like to be pampered and have fun! We gave her a soft curl with a lot of bounce, combined that with a twisted half updo. For her makeup, we focused on her natural features, amping up her lashes, brows, and cheeks.
Enhancing people’s natural features and putting an exclamation point on their everyday look is what I love to do. Beauty is my LIFE. I would love to meet with you in person to talk about your beauty options, needs, or just do a fun makeover along with a private photoshoot! Please email me directly for booking inquiries!

This all would not have been possible without my stunning model, Kari, our skilled photographer, Adam with Devo Photography and mimosas… Of course.
